Library Finds

I don't think I've explained what it is I'm looking for in picture books.

1. I have to like the artwork. I find that I'm pretty picky about it. It's the first thing that attracts me to the book, so it doesn't matter how cute the story is,  I'm not going to read it if the artwork is ............yuck. It can't be to abstract or what I like to call "messy" I'm a strait forward kind of person, Ruth likes a clean looking picture to, otherwise she makes me put it down.
2. The story has to have a nice, natural flow. We usually get 10 books every 2 weeks and end up putting 5 in the closet till our next visit because of choppy, disjointed flow. I'm pretty shocked at the amount of crappy books there are out there that made it to print. I know these go through editors first, so what is the deal with the crip-crappy books? I think I'm going to protest by making a Crip-Crappy List now.

 Time For a Hug by Phillis Gershator and Mim Green, illustration by David Walker, is DARLING!!! It follows a bunny through the day and points out the importance of taking time for a Hug:)

 Ten Tiny Babies by Karen Katz. Very strait forward, count the babies while they go through various activities.

We're Going on a Picnic by Pat Hutchins. I love this because it reads aloud well. It's even fun and has a good rhythm.

Banjo Granny by Sarah Busse ans Jacqueline Briggs Martin. It took me a few days to get Ruth to sit through it, cause it's a little long for her but I really liked it! It's one of those I'll get again when she's a little older. Granny wants to go see her Grandson Owen who loves blue grass music and she uses blue grass and her banjo to cross a river, a mountain and a desert to get to him. Sooooooooo cute.

Library Finds

This was a bad week for Librarying. We got eleven books and only liked two. In fact Ruth and didn't even finish most of them.......she showed her dislike by constantly moving and spitting.

This was my favorite, and it was the only one Ruth held still for during reading time before bed. First off, I've never heard all the verses to the song Home On The Range, so it was interesting, and the picture story that went along with it is DARLING!!! It starts off with a little boy living in the city, then follows him on his rocking horse as he visits the Range in his imagination. LOVE.

This was more sentimental than fun.....and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to explain the story line without just telling the story. So enjoy it when you read it:)

Autumn

One of the things I love about getting together with the Anderson Women (Mike's side), is that we do a craft. Susanne and I made these at Emilee's house. She is part of a craft group, I forget if this was her craft or someone else's, but she set this up for us. It's a flip flopper so there's no removal after Halloween. You just flip it:) Love.

Just Stay Little

I made this little cutie for Ruth's Bedroom. It's a Sarah Jane Studios pattern and I love it!!!!! I'm currently working on another one of hers but I'm a little side tracked by Fall decor for the living room. I'm so excited for Fall I can hardly stand it.

Great Find

For months I've been looking for something to keep my current needle work in that wouldn't be an eye soar in my living room. There are obviously lots of options out there but I was looking for a GREAT price and I found it:) I went to the clearance isle at Walmart and found this large picnic basket sitting there just for me. The problem was it didn't have a price tag. Hoping for the best I took it to the check out with me. The manager happened to be close by and on finding out I had this basket she let me have it for $3 because she was sick of it coming up to the register and not being able to find a price for it. I love it!!!

Great Idea!!!

I follow a blog called kojodesigns and one of the things they do for fun when they get together, like on vacation, is have a drink making contest. My husband and I don't drink alchohol but we can totally do something else!! i.e. guacamole/salsa contest for a chip night or smoothies!! This would be PERFECT for Christmas or our family trip to the Outer Banks next Summer:) each family make's a different smoothie and we serve them in really small paper cups, then we can have several different flavors in one night!!
